Why do it?

  • Claim back time in your day by getting out of bed and moving about before you start scrolling away.
  • Reduce the chances of filling your mind with the thoughts, feelings and desires of other people which can leave you feeling spread thin.
  • Use the very first moments of the day to check in and spend some time with yourself and use this to start your day on your own terms.

How does it work?

  1. Find an old alarm clock at home that you are not using or buy one which suits your needs (from basic to specialist).
  2. Install the clock next to your bed and set it up. You may want to take extra steps here to make sure you don’t fall back to using your phone.
  3. When the alarm goes off in the morning take some time to notice your state of mind before reaching for your phone.

If you don’t already have an alarm clock then be careful not to fall into the trap of going on a journey of distraction to find the perfect one. Start with something cheap and basic that you can get hold of quickly before getting lost in google searches for the world’s best alarm clock! It’s also a good idea to plan what you will do with the first few moments of your day so that you don’t default to picking up your phone.
